Staff Accountant (Part-Time/Full-Time) – Pittston, PA

Background

North Penn Legal Services (NPLS) seeks a Staff Accountant (part-time or full-time) to work under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer to help manage the finances of this nonprofit corporation. The mission of NPLS is to strive to solve civil legal problems and empower vulnerable populations through professional legal representation, advocacy, and education.

NPLS serves communities in twenty counties in northeast Pennsylvania that are a mix of rural and urban areas and include the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and Williamsport. The 91-member staff includes 39 attorneys and 20 paralegals working in 11 office locations.

The current operating budget is over $10 million, including funds from the federal Legal Services Corporation, the Pennsylvania Interest on Lawyers Trust Account Board (IOLTA), Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, and numerous smaller grants and private funding. This position is located in Pittston, PA, the corporate office of North Penn Legal Services.

Salary is commensurate with relevant experience based on a salary scale. Staff Accountant (Part-Time/Full-Time) – Pittston, PA

The staff accountant supports the CFO in all areas of financial management. The staff accountant provides backup to the CFO and Payroll and Benefits Coordinator.  

Responsibilities:

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare general ledger entries.
  • Manage budgeting and reporting on grants less than $100,000.
  • Assist with grant invoicing as assigned, including preparation of the monthly PLAN workbook.
  • Provide support and back up to the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator and Accounting Assistant depending on if hired on as full-time or part-time basis
  • Perform various accounting controls including, but not limited to, approval of vendor invoices, account reconciliations, petty cash accounts, and inventory.
  • Provide account analysis and report preparation and such other duties as may be assigned by the CFO.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members and act in accordance with program policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance with a variety of miscellaneous duties, such as preparing analyses for the annual audit.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with minimum of three years of relevant work experience or, an associate’s degree in accounting or business and a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. 
  • Proficient computer skills including accounting software, Excel, routine data base activity, word processing, and email.
  • Communication with staff, management, vendors, funders in a professional manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and policies and to write clearly and concisely.

Other job details:

  • Position is 60% of full time with pro-rated benefits and leave time.
  • If full-time, salary is approx. $47,700.
