Social Security
If you are unable to work due to a chronic physical and/or mental health impairment, you can file for Social Security disability benefits. These benefits are a federal program that provides a monthly payment and medical insurance for qualified individuals. If you have a long-lasting health problem that affects your ability to function on a daily basis, you may qualify for benefits.
There are two types of Social Security disability benefits:
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
You can file a claim for Social Security disability online or by going to the local Social Security office. If the State Agency decides that you are not disabled and cannot get benefits, you have the right to appeal the denial.
